Making up for Lost Time

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic our students have been out of school. They have missed almost two and a half years of education. In Honduras remote learning was not a viable possibility in the rural areas where infrastructure and technology difficulties are even worse. Due to these challenges, our students received little to no instruction during those two and half years. This upcoming school year will be essential to getting them back on track!

This coming school year, beginning in February 2023, will be our students first full year back in school. Despite not having a complete year of school since 2019, the Honduran government is requiring the teachers to move all students up three grades. This has created an incredible challenge for teachers across the country who are trying to meet education standards.

Our Director of Operations says that many of our students still can't write their names and are extremely behind in meeting their grade level standards. We are so excited to be able to go back to full time after-school programming so that we can assist the teachers and students in making up for lost time.

The one area of our program that has never stopped is our food program. It has been vital to our community. Food insecurity is at an all time high in the wake of the pandemic and natural disasters like hurricanes. We are so thankful that we have been able to support our students and their families in this way for so long. We are committed to helping these kids learn, play and grow, even in the toughest of times.

That is what it's all about. Helping as many students as we possibly can to succeed, not just in school, but in life. We want to see our students grow up and thrive in their community. We want them to feel confident as the future leaders of Honduras. And it all starts here. Remember, when you give they GO!
